Labor vs C-Section for delivery ModeHello, My daughter was told two months ago that there is a concern that her baby may have DWS. She is currently 37.5 weeks pregnant, and was asked during her weekly check-up today, if she knew what delivery mode her Maternal and Fetal Medicine specialist wanted her to go through. The OBGYN indicated that if the baby does have DWS, that delivering him naturally may cause additional malformations. Was anyone else told this? We’re thinking we should error on the side of caution and ask for the c-section. Does anyone know if my daughter can request a c-section to avoid any additional complications? Any feedback you can provide is greatly appreciated! 2 comments to Labor vs C-Section for delivery ModeYou must be logged in to post a comment. |

I would discuss with your doctor to see what they suggest. I suppose it depends on your specific case if there is Hydrocephalus or additional congenital birth defects etc. that require immediate attention perhaps they may suggest a c-section. In our case, my son had Dandy-Walker Variant with no Hydrocephalus and no known additional birth defects, so a regular delivery is what we had.
I had to have a c-section, but it was due to the hydrocephalus…my daughter’s head was too large to deliver naturally. She was also born at 36 1/2 weeks. I don’t know about the chance of other malformations happening because of labor, but I guess there could be the risk of putting too much stress on the baby. I don’t know, I’m not a professional. Good luck and I hope your daughter makes the decision she feels best with.
